In August every year, one excellent beer blogger by the name of Jeff Alworth, curses our name. His twitter handle @Beervana is inundated with many a happy festival goer’s tweets. We’re truly sorry Jeff, we really are. But as a beer blogger living in Portland, it makes absolute sense that he named his blog Beervana, as Portland itself is often called by the very same name. It is as close to beer heaven as you can get, Portland has more breweries than any other city in the world. Last year they brewed 1,700,000 barrels of beer and consumed 650,500 of them! So it is no wonder that this Beervana looks to our Beervana sister city of where we can truly ascend to.
For the last three years Beervana has built a relationship with Oregon and invited world class brewers from Oregon to the festival. This year we’re taking the Beervana Oregon Exchange up a notch. In the rise of beer tourism and craft beer obsession Travel Oregon, Travel Portland and Cryer Malt will bring you the Oregon Mash Up – an interactive bar showcasing the other Beervana. This year we’ve invited four brewers from Portland and one from Bend, Oregon. We’ll be serving up quintessentially Oregonian food and transporting you to Portland in our “Wish You Where Here” photo booth.
We’re proud to introduce the eager Beervana palates to:
Base Camp Brewing Company
Stephen joins us from Base Camp Brewing. They’ve been brewing innovative lagers and ales for the adventurous palate since 2012. They’re an intrepid bunch, as the name suggests, when they’re not brewing they’re off climbing mountains, snowboarding, fishing and camping. We reckon they’ll be right at home here in NZ.
BridgePort Brewing Company
This one is a true legacy. Eric Munger will be coming down from BridgePort Brewing. Established in 1984, it is Portland’s oldest craft brewery.

Crux Fermentation Project
Larry Sidor has over 40 years brewing under his belt and now he’s having a bit of fun. He’s designed a brewery to allow for non-traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, open fermentation, oak barrel aging, wild yeast strains and experimental hops. A brewmaster Willy Wonka.

Ecliptic Brewing
Another brewing legend John Harris combined his two passions – astronomy and brewing to create Ecliptic. And it was written in the stars, he’s recently won Gold at the World Beer Cup for his Capella Porter, which you’ll be lucky enough to try at Beervana this year.

Hopworks Urban Brewery
Hopworks put the good in Good Beer. They’re certified as a B Corporation, one of only 1000 businesses world wide dedicated to creating a positive impact on the environment, they also use only organic hops and malts. Sadly head brewer Trevor Bass, won’t be able to fit their amazing (and sustainable) bike bar in his luggage.
